Today, a group of ladies from the Shuswap Dragon Boat Society, Friends Abreast, prepared 300 carnations with tags to hand out to women as a reminder that it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month which means it is time to book your mammogram. This has been a long standing tradition with the team. Glenda Lapine, a new paddler this year, allowed me to take her photo along with these two recipients near Canadian Tire. The lady on the scooter had her battery die so a Canadian Tire employee came out to give her a boost. Thank you Canadian Tire for your generosity in lending a hand to get this lady on her way. I’m sure all who handed out carnations heard stories from women who are either in treatment or know someone who has been touched with breast cancer. Such a wonderful way to make the event even more meaningful.
The event took place On October 1 in Salmon Arm at Picadilly Mall, Uptown Askews and Walmart. We want to give Save On Foods a huge thank you for donating the carnations. Also, we want to say huge thank you to Piccadilly Mall for providing the meeting room to tag our carnations. We have an amazing team.
