On Saturday, June 18, 2022 Salmon Arm hosted a Carnation Ceremony in honour of breast cancer survivors and supporters for those who have been touched by this awful disease. The Shuswap Association for Rowing and Paddling organized this ceremony. Paddlers from Salmon Arm, Enderby, Kamloops, Chase, Langley and Vernon filled three boats. They waved carnations in time with the song The River in honour of all breast cancer survivors. Please read attached article.

On June 14, 2022 our Awakening the Dragon ceremony took place at the Marine Wharf dock. This is an annual ritual. It involves a VIP to dot the eyes of the carved dragon head at the bow of the boat with a paintbrush, symbolizing the end of the creature's slumber during the off season. This year John Howard was our guest of honor. He is the husband of the late Barbara Ann Howard - 1946-2011.

On December 6, 2021 our team got together for our annual Christmas party. This year we decided to do a sleigh ride out at Joyce Marchant’s Sleigh Rides. What a perfect venue. Mother Nature provided us with enough snow and a mild temperature to experience the sleigh. Joyce entertained us with stories that brought much laughter. Garage Sale
It is with much anticipated pleasure that the Community Dragon Boat equipment shed at the Salmon Wharf is now completed. We are grateful to have such a dedicated commercial/industrial community that generously donated their time and materials to make this shed become a reality. We will make good use of it along with our fellow dragon boat teams - Grey Grebes and Shuswap Association for Rowing and Paddling.

To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the Friends Abreast Dragon Boat Team spread the word with flowers.
Spokesperson Liz Burdeniuk said team members were determined to promote the message with their annual Carnation campaign, despite COVID-19 restrictions.
