On Saturday, October 5th, we had our breast cancer awareness kick off at the Ross Street Farmers Market. We handed out 300 pink carnations to women reminding them to book their mammograms at our local Shuswap Hospital Mammography Unit. We also sold pink ribbons for a minimum $2.00 donation. A name was written on each ribbon affected by breast cancer. In turn, they were tied down on the wharf railing. It was very emotional to see over 100 ribbons blowing in the wind all representing a loved one who had been affected by breast cancer. At the end of our campaign, we had raised $1317.00 which was donated to the Shuswap Hospital Mammography Unit fundraising campaign for the Wireless Breast Cancer Localization Technology equipment.
