Breast Cancer Survivors Dragon Boat Teams in British Columbia

Angels Abreast
Nanaimo BC Breast Cancer Survivor team started in 2000

Abreast in A Boat
Are a group of women from Vancouver, Canada, living with breast cancer. They participate in dragon boat racing to make a difference - to raise awareness about breast cancer and to encourage those living with breast cancer to live full and active lives. Abreast In A Boat is a non-profit society. Their goal is to send a message of hope to people living with this disease and to those who support them.

Buoyant Buddies, Vernon B.C.
Was formed in late 2003. The Buoyant Buddies are passionate about the sport and anxious to get in shape for the upcoming season. It was quickly established that they could easily fill a boat based on the response to the newspaper article looking for Breast Cancer Survivors wanting to dragon boat.

They have drawn interest from Armstrong to Lumby and of course, Vernon. Swan Lake was an established paddling center and the logical location to add a dragon boat team!

Bust N' Loose, Kelowna BC
We are a group of breast cancer survivors based in Kelowna, British Columbia, who paddle for fun to raise awareness about breast cancer and to support breast cancer research. We participate in dragon boat festivals each year, with members pushing themselves to new limits as either paddlers or members of the support crew.

Kootenay Robusters, Trail BC
Kootenay Robusters was formed as a non-profit charitable organization in February 2001, for breast cancer survivors and associates to experience physical, emotional, spiritual and mental wellness at a level they find comfortable and personally challenging. Through the dragon boat experience, it is our aim to raise awareness of breast cancer and the uplighting truth that there is life after breast cancer.
Kootenay Robusters value:
1. Self determination and the camaraderie, friendship, trust and emotional support of the members.
2. The pursuit of a cure for breast cancer.
3. The opportunity to foster courage, hope and a positive attitude.

Kootenay Rhythm Dragons, Nelson BC
The Kootenay Rhythm Dragons are Nelson's first dragon boat team. The team building began in the fall of 2003, and the momentum has continued to build. It is a very exciting time for this new organization.
KRD is made up of a diverse group of people, including breast cancer survivors and their friends, family, and supporters, who want to share the sport and the team message. There is lots of interest in our team, and we are hoping that we can inspire other teams to take up this sport in Nelson

Spirit Abreast
Spirit Abreast is the Fraser Valley's 1st Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Team, formed early in 2002 by Team Manager and Coach, Debbie Garcia. Our Team paddles on Harrison Lake and consists of wise women with passion and imagination looking for some fun and adventure. We are intuitive, loving, creative and strong. We want to make a difference by increasing awareness about breast cancer and show others facing the disease that there is, indeed, a life after diagnosis. Paddles Up!

Breast Cancer Survivors from the South Okanagan, British Columbia, Canada, paddling towards a sense of teamwork, support and an active lifestyle after Breast Cancer.

Pink Piston Paddlers
The Pink Piston Paddlers was formed in 2006 to promote breast cancer awareness. We compete in festivals as a breast cancer team and we have competed in the International Breast Cancer Survivor Festival in Australia in 2007. We also compete in a local festival in Salmon Arm as well as one other festival within in BC that have a carnation ceremony.
The Pink Piston Paddlers paddle out of Salmon Arm BC, under the auspices of the Shuswap Rowing and Paddling Club.
