Shuswap Dragon Boating Society - Friends Abreast

This year has been a busy one for our team. We refurbished our boat and put on new decals before the boat was launched in May. Once again we have extended three complimentary paddles for guests before a commitment was needed to the team. Three new members were added to our enthusiastic team. An evening with a local business provided a boat full of laughs and new appreciation for paddling and working together!

With the Relay for Life no longer being held in Salmon Arm, the local Canadian Cancer Society office held a Luminary Walk with our team members providing an honorary paddle arch. The ‘Pajama Paddle’ saw a number of interesting morning attire on a glorious morning followed by a welcome breakfast hosted by the Social Committee.
Our second annual involvement in the Terry Fox run/walk in September started in the rain but ended with clear skies. Live Well Physiotherapy once again sponsored the curling teams for the ‘Curl for Cancer’ event in November.

Our carnation project distributed 400 complimentary carnations with mammogram reminder tags to women for October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month. Team members hand them out at various businesses in Salmon Arm.

The year- end windup social potluck was very well attended. As always, our members outdid themselves with salads and desserts, the Social Committee barbequed hamburgers (in the rain) for everyone. Steerspersons and coaches were recognized for their ongoing support and dedication to our team of paddlers. This year there were a couple of ‘special’ coach’s awards!!
